Dreamhaven co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime has announced a round of layoffs at the developer and publisher.

In a post shared on LinkedIn, Morhaime wrote that the company made “the hard decision to reduce the impact on our publishing group”.

The number of employees affected has not been specified.

“These choices are never easy – they affect talented colleagues who have played a key role in building Dreamhaven’s foundation and supporting what has been an eventful year for us,” Morhaime explained.

“From organising the Dreamhaven Showcase to helping launch three games, every person at Dreamhaven has contributed to sharing our games with the world. I’m deeply grateful for the creativity, dedication, and hard work of the teammates we are parting ways with.”

He continued: “We recognise that this comes at a time when far too many in our industry are facing similar challenges. To support our colleagues in their next steps, we’ve provided separation packages and benefits coverage.”

Morhaime also shared that Dreamhaven has partnered with Amir Satvat’s Games Community “to connect [colleagues] with career transition resources and mentorship.

“While today’s news is hard, I remain optimistic about Dreamhaven’s future and the experiences still to come.”

In a statement to PC Gamer, Dreamhaven clarified that “ongoing development of Wildgate and Sunderfolk and other projects [are] not affected” by the layoffs.

The redundancies at Dreamhaven came after a Bloomberg report cited an internal email in which Morhaime allegedly wrote that the company’s “monthly expenses are outpacing revenue”.

Dreamhaven was co-founded by Morhaime in 2020 following his tenure as president of Blizzard Entertainment, of which he also co-founded. He stepped down from his role at the developer in 2018.
